#TeamBeautiful has taken the time to gather these sensational news topics in your weekly cheat sheet, so that when you get into in-depth discussions this weekend, you’ve got something interesting to bring to the table.
Twerking has been around longer than Miley Cyrus figured out how to get her nonexistent pancake @$% to move. But the booty-shaking action has made it to the Oxford Dictionary!
“Twerk, v.: dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.”
The Associated Press is reporting that “‘Twerk’ will be added to the dictionary as part of its quarterly update, which includes words such as “selfie,” the word typically used to describe pouty smartphone self-portraits, ‘digital detox’ for time spent way from Facebook and Twitter, and ‘Bitcoin,’ for the nationless electronic currency whose gyrations have also caught the world’s eye.
Oxford Dictionaries is responsible for a range of reference works, including Oxford Dictionaries Online, which focuses on modern usage, and the historically-focused Oxford English Dictionary, which probably won’t be adding ‘twerk’ to its venerable pages any time soon.”
In case you haven’t fully learned the booty-popping move from Miley’s lame attempt, here’s some help for you!
Luckily there are all kinds of How To’s on YouTube so that you too can twerk:

Don Lemon and Russell Simmons have been at odds about the bold statements Don made to remedy racism in America.
“If a Black person who’s revered in the community says something that is conservative and part of a mindset that is hurtful to the community–it’s helping them but it is not helpful–people will say, ‘The problem with the Black community is the kids got their ass cracks showing!’ No, the problem with the Black community is that they need education and job opportunities. These realities are the ones we need to bring up when we talk about uplifting our children, first,” Simmons said.
Don agreed with Simmons, but said, ‘Why didn’t you write a letter that said, ‘I understand what Don Lemon was saying, we need to take personal responsibility first, then here’s the points where I disagree with you.” Russell agreed, but took the conversation further by explaining how he managed to get in a better place than where he was going when he took drugs and lived a “fast life.”
The conversation became a healthy debate on what we can do as Black people to improve our communities and where the issue stems.
“We should have this discussion. We should start a process. Each individual has to go out and give what they can. What you’ve been doing is giving what you can and your intentions are good and I respect you for it,” Russell admitted. Their conversation was certainly a hefty one and worth the watch.

Even though twerking has become the latest viral dance craze that’s got everyone popping their booties, it’s not acceptable in some places and one of those places is Hampton University–an HBCU!
An image has made its way around the internet, encouraging freshmen NOT to twerk with the following requests:
1) Hampton Ladies Do Not Twerk!!!
2) Hampton Men Do Not Take Twerkers Home To Mother
3) Employers do not discriminate between twerkers and twerkees
It seems like a joke, no? Evidently a slideshow was made to alert students of the dangers of twerking. Ebony’s Jamilah Lemieux said, “BYE FOR REAL, Hampton.” Do you agree with her?

George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie has plead guilty to lying under oath during a bail hearing and only has to do a year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Reportedly, the two weren’t so happily married before the tragic shooting that took 17-year-old unarmed teen, Trayvon Martin’s life.
Shellie claims they lived like “gypsies” shortly after Zimmerman was released on bail–hiding out in a trailer deep in the woods. The seclusion didn’t help their marriage because now Shellie’s talking divorce. George didn’t even show up to court when she was punished for lying.
In an appearance on “Good Morning America,” Shellie admitted that George hurt her self-esteem. NewsOne is reporting that Shellie reportedly agreed to the interview with Christie O’Connor so that she could set the record straight and move on, even though George Zimmerman has “beaten down her self-esteem.” According to O’Connor, “When I asked her [Shellie] why she was doing [the interview], Shellie said, ‘I want to start my life back.’ George Zimmerman has beaten down her self-esteem.” She admits to having made mistakes but says she is owning up to them now and moving forward with her life, but as to whether or not this move will include Zimmerman, only time will tell.
Shellie, however, did admit that she’s unsure if she will stay married to Zimmerman. Awww, trouble in paradise?!
