2014 is upon us and I’m a big believer in ringing in the New Year with a bang! Every year, several of my friends end up so focused on Christmas, they forget to plan for their new year celebration. So in order to get you ready for a new year and new location to spend it in, I’ve compiled a list of amazing locations you should check out for the new year.

From Paris to Vegas, there’s so many places where you can enjoy the biggest fireworks display in the nation; the world is your oyster! Here are five of the best places in the world to get the upcoming year going in the right direction.

This is a place I have spent at least four NYE’s! Las Vegas amid its drunks and gamblers, is one of the most fun and festive looking places to ring in the New Year. Everyone is wearing their most sequined outfit and the liquor and the 24 hours lights brings NYE to a fever pitch of excitement. The strip shuts down for cars and fills with thousands of people on-foot toasting and watching the big fireworks display that kicks off at midnight. And don’t forget, what happens there, stays there!

No matter where you have been or where you are going, everyone owes it to themselves to at least spend one New Year’s Eve in the Big Apple! The streets on this island city are crazy! Of course, making your way over to Time Square for the iconic ball dropping is a must! If you’re a little squeamish of getting trampled by the reported million or so people who do that, book a boat from New York Harbor and let the clock strike 12 with you in the water and fireworks in the sky.

Besides boasting architecture that makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale, Barcelona is one of the most festive feeling cities on earth! NYE fireworks ring out from the rooftops of many of the city’s biggest hotels and there are parties that fill the streets of Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya all night. Book a table at 4 Gats and enjoy one of Picasso’s favorite meals before you hit the streets!

This Cajun city boasts the longest recorded NYE fireworks display in the nation. They are 15 minutes long and they explode across the sky over the Mississippi River! Live music fills the streets with the sounds of brass bands and jazz and the city even has it’s own version of the “ball drop” with a Fleur de Lis in its place in Jackson Square.

With this city’s most famous export being champagne, how can you NOT have a good time?! The sites and sounds will provide for excellent Instagram fare. I’m headed here this year and cannot wait! I mean, there’s a light show surrounding the Eiffel Tower! There’s also a huge street party within the Champs Elysees. Oh and let’s not forget the glitzy bars and clubs–the choices are endless in the city of love!
