Spread the word about HIV and AIDS in our community. And mark February 7th as National Black HIV/ AIDS Awareness Day.

Blacks represent 12 percent of the U.S. population, yet account for nearly half of new HIV infections.

Health officials urge more frequent testing for everyone especially pregnant women. Dale Harrison with the Leon County Health Department says, “Some test in the first trimester but don’t test in the third trimester. If you can test and a person becomes HIV positive between the first and the third, there’s medication that a mother can get to prevent that child from becoming HIV positive.”

Various places are giving free HIV tests this week. Call and schedule a test today.
