Picture this: you’re hyped, dressed looking demure, popcorn in hand, ready for another dark ride with the Twin Clown , and then…he starts singing. Yes, singing. The Joker 2 is a full-blown musical, and Black folks found out the hard way—live in the theater, no less.

Despite the hype and its historic background, Joker 2 is suffering the worst second-week box office drop in DC history—proving that not all sequels get the last laugh. Maybe the Clown Prince of Crime underestimated how hard it is to keep audiences coming back for another round of chaos. Or perhaps Gotham’s moviegoers just are deciding to wait for it to him home screens and avoid the madness.
After a dazzling debut, the box office nosedive suggests Joker 2 might need a bit more than maniacal laughter and moody stairs to pull viewers back into theaters. Crowds were honestly shocked “Is this Joker or Dreamgirls?” Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga came with the drama but when Gotham’s most notorious villain broke into song, there were some serious side-eyes and ‘nah, bruh’ moments in the audience.
Either way, Joker 2 might’ve laughed last in the first week, but the joke was on them by week two. Looks like this sequel needs more than a killer laugh to survive.
