LendingTree has named the city of Atlanta the nation’s leader in Black-owned businesses for the 3rd consecutive year.

The analysis found that 11.3% of Atlanta’s businesses are Black-owned, an 8.9% increase from last year.

Nationally, Black-owned businesses grew 22.2% year over year. A significant 39.1% of those businesses are also women-owned – higher than the 22/3% of all businesses run by women.

Atlanta’s ranking may have benefited from the city’s significant Black population. With 33.6% of ATL residents being Black, it has the 12th-highest Black population among the analyzed metros.

  4. Memphis, TN
  5. Washington, DC
  6. Jackson, MS
  7. Richmond, VA (tie)
  8. Augusta, GA (tie)
  9. Columbia, SC (tie)
  10. Baltimore, MD (tie)

In comparison, Salt Lake City, UT has the lowest rate of Black-owned businesses with just 0.8%. With a Black population of 1.6%, it is the only metro with less than 2% of Black residents.
