ATL Nonprofit Held World's Longest Basketball Game
ATL Nonprofit Breaks Record For World’s Longest Basketball Game
A local nonprofit has just set a new Guinness World Record while raising money for survivors of sex trafficking.
As reported by 11Alive, the game officially ended at 10 am on Friday (Mar. 21) at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn after playing for 121 hours and 3 minutes. The previous record was broken by 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
The players are part of MOST (Men Opposing Sex Trafficking), an ATL-based nonprofit that organized the five-day game to raise awareness and funds. In the end, the group raised more than $300,000.
“We’re here today, but that issue will still be in society,” said MOST founder Bruce Steele. “So we’re enthused that we get to be a part of addressing that at least at some level.”
A total of 23 players, ages 17-64, participated in the game, in which they were required to stay inside the gym for the entire duration. The players rotated in shifts, took brief scheduled breaks, and slept on the sidelines while off the court.
The final score ended up reaching 6 figures, 13,096 to 12,972.
This marks the second time MOST ended up in the record books for a good cause. Last year, the group broke the record for the longest softball game, also playing for 121 hours. That game helped launch national support for the group’s efforts.
Founded in 2022, MOST intends to educate, activate and equip men to help stop sex trafficking. The nonprofit provides date analysts and a team of former military and law enforcement professionals to assist in sting operations and prevention nationwide.
