Cupid, the artist who got America moving with the “Cupid Shuffle,” is back with a bold new chapter. His latest album, The Line Dance King, drops September 1st and promises to break new ground: “It’s the first R&B line dance album ever,” Cupid says. The project, filled with original music and choreography for every track, is his answer to an industry that once wrote line dance artists off as “one hit wonders.”

Sitting down with Jackie Paige on Girl Talk, Cupid opened up about the pressures and pride that come with the title of Line Dance King. “To have an album and to now be carving a lane for a line dance, it’s kind of some pressure,” he admits. But he’s diving in—and having fun. “Every song has a line dance to it. So we have advance, we have the dance challenged. We have a little bit of everything.”

Cupid’s creative journey is rooted in family values and respect for his upbringing. “When I first started doing music, my parents went to ministry, so they wouldn’t let me do secular music,” he shares. That foundation inspired his latest single, “High Stepping,” an upbeat, inspirational track featuring Mr. Talkbox. “I told them I was gonna give them a gospel song, but I ain’t want it to be like Amazing Grace… so we put some steps behind it and put a really brilliant message.”

Far from overnight success, Cupid’s line dance reign has been years in the making. Early struggles—like seeing his CDs discarded in parking lots—taught him to “own the box” he felt put in after “Cupid Shuffle.” That advice, he says, turned his frustration into drive: “Now, I love it… but I had no idea.”

Cupid’s impact reaches across generations. “Different generations know, like, you got babies all the way up until seniors… they know your song, they love your song,” he says, reflecting on his unique place in American celebrations. Whether at weddings, cookouts, or dance classes, his music brings people together on the dance floor.

With The Line Dance King and “High Stepping,” Cupid shows he’s more than a one-hit wonder; he’s built a legacy “to keep people on the dance floor.” Follow @officialnewcupid on Instagram for dance tutorials, and keep those shoes ready—Cupid is just getting started.
